You rented a DayZ server from Nitrado for Xbox or PlayStation. Now what? Console servers can't run mods, so everything you change goes through two places: the server settings in the Nitrado web interface, and the XML and JSON files in your mission folder. This guide walks through them in the order that saves you the most trouble, and links the detailed guide and free tool for each step.
Nothing here needs our bot. The guides and tools work for any Nitrado server; the bot adds the Discord side once the server runs.
1. Know where your files are
Every map has its own mission folder, and the server only reads the one for the map it runs. On Xbox it sits inside dayzxb_missions, on PlayStation inside dayzps_missions, named dayzOffline.chernarusplus, dayzOffline.enoch (Livonia) or dayzOffline.sakhal. Editing the wrong map's folder is the most common reason a change does nothing. DayZ mission folders lists what lives where.
2. Turn on logs first
The admin log is what killfeeds, player lists and most server tools read. Turn on Player List Logging early, so positions are recorded from day one: admin logs and Player List Logging.
3. Set the gameplay rules
cfggameplay.json holds base damage, stamina, building checks, hit indicators and map options. DayZ only reads it when it is turned on in your Nitrado server settings. Change it with the free cfggameplay.json Editor, or flip the common switches from Discord: cfggameplay.json from Discord.
4. Tune loot and the economy
- types.xml: how much of each item spawns, where and for how long. Edit it with the types.xml Editor.
- cfgspawnabletypes.xml: the attachments and cargo that come with an item. Build entries with the cfgspawnabletypes Generator.
- events.xml and cfgeventgroups.xml: vehicles, helicopter crashes and other events. Use the events.xml Editor.
- globals.xml: infected and animal caps, cleanup and login timers. Use the globals.xml Editor.
- economy.xml: what spawns, loads and is saved over restarts.
5. Shape the world
- cfgweather.xml: fog, rain, wind and storms, with the cfgweather.xml Editor.
- Contaminated zones: add, move or remove gas zones on a map with the Contaminated Zone Editor.
- Underground triggers: how dark bunkers and tunnels are.
- Day and night length: the Day & Night Calculator turns your time acceleration into real minutes.
6. Decide how players start
- Fresh spawn points: where new characters appear.
- Spawn loadouts: the clothes and items they start with. Build the file with the Spawn Loadout Generator.
7. Schedule restarts and messages
Every file change needs a restart, and players want a warning first. Scheduled restarts and messages.xml covers the schedule; the messages.xml Generator builds the welcome notes and countdowns.
8. Connect Discord
- Killfeed setup for Xbox and PS5: kills, deaths and joins in Discord, free.
- Whitelist and bans from Discord: let staff manage access without the Nitrado login.
- Safe zones and a trader without mods for PvE areas and an economy.
Before every upload
- Download the file and keep an untouched copy.
- Make your change, then check it with the free DayZ File Checker: one broken tag or comma can stop the server reading the whole file.
- Upload it to the mission folder of the map your server runs.
- Restart the server. DayZ reads these files at start.
