Open the cfgeventspawns.xml from your mission folder, or start from Bohemia's vanilla file, and see on the map where every car, helicopter crash, police car and train wreck can spawn. Click the map to add a position, drag a point's angle, delete the ones you don't want, and check them against the nominal in your events.xml.

What cfgeventspawns.xml controls

Cars, boats, helicopter crashes, police cars, train wrecks and other dynamic events spawn at fixed places. events.xml says how many of each event there should be; cfgeventspawns.xml, in the root of the mission folder, lists the places each one may use. Each <event name="…"> holds <pos x="…" z="…" a="…"/> positions: X and Z on the map, and the angle it faces.

  • An event can't spawn more than it has free positions, so a nominal of 10 with 6 positions means 6 at most.
  • Positions too close together make vehicles spawn into each other or not at all.
  • Infected and animal events use <zone> entries instead of positions; the editor keeps those as they are.

To change how many of each event spawn, use the events.xml Editor, and for the parts cars spawn with the Vehicle Builder.

Change the spawn positions on a Nitrado server

  1. Open the file browser in the Nitrado web interface and go to your mission folder: dayzxb_missions/dayzOffline.chernarusplus on Xbox, dayzps_missions/… on PlayStation. Livonia uses dayzOffline.enoch, Sakhal dayzOffline.sakhal and Nasdara dayzOffline.nasdara.
  2. Download cfgeventspawns.xml and keep an untouched copy.
  3. Open it here, change the positions and download the result.
  4. Upload it over the old file and restart the server. Events already on the map stay until they respawn.

On Xbox and PlayStation servers running Law's KillFeed, the dashboard's Server Files page opens, checks and uploads this file for you and keeps the last 15 versions of every file.

Questions

Why do no cars or helicopter crashes spawn?

An event in events.xml can only spawn where cfgeventspawns.xml gives it a position. If an event has fewer free positions than its nominal, or none at all, fewer spawn or none. Open both files here: the editor compares the positions with the nominal for each event.

How do I add a new place for cars to spawn?

Open cfgeventspawns.xml, pick the vehicle event, such as VehicleCivilianSedan, and click the map where the car should stand. Set the angle so it faces along the road, download the file and restart.

What is the angle?

The direction the vehicle or object faces, in degrees: 0 is north, 90 east, 180 south and 270 west. It is the a="…" in each position.

How far apart should positions be?

Far enough that two vehicles don't overlap: 10 metres or more. The editor flags positions closer than 5 metres to another one in the same event.

Is my file uploaded anywhere?

No. The editor runs in your browser. The vanilla button loads Bohemia's files straight from their public GitHub, and Apply to server only sends the finished file to your own Nitrado server.

Does this work for Xbox and PlayStation servers?

Yes. cfgeventspawns.xml is the same on every platform. It sits in the root of the mission folder, next to the db folder.
