Updated 12 October 2026

economy.xml in the mission's db folder is short, but it decides which parts of the world spawn, load, respawn and are saved. One wrong switch can wipe every base or every character at the next restart.

The four switches

  • init: spawns this category when the server starts.
  • load: loads what was saved in storage at start.
  • respawn: spawns more while the server runs.
  • save: saves it to storage, so it is kept over restarts.

The categories

  • dynamic: loot.
  • animals and zombies (infected).
  • vehicles and randoms (random events).
  • custom: custom spawns.
  • building: bases and built objects.
  • player: player characters.

Each category is a line such as <dynamic init="1" load="1" respawn="1" save="1"/>, with 1 for on and 0 for off.

Be careful with save

Turning save off for a category means it is not kept over restarts. For player that means every character starts fresh after a restart, and for building every base is gone. Keep both on unless that is exactly what you want, and keep a copy of the file before you change it.

On Xbox and PlayStation, the dashboard's Server Files page shows economy.xml as a table of switches on the paid plan and warns when save is off for players or bases.

Questions

Can I give the server fresh loot at every restart?

Turning load off for dynamic stops saved loot from loading, so loot spawns fresh at start. Test it on a quiet server first.

Everyone lost their characters after a restart. What happened?

Check that player has load and save set to 1. With either off, characters are not kept.

When do changes apply?

At the next restart, like the other economy files.
