Open the cfggameplay.json from your server's mission folder and change it with switches, dropdowns and boxes instead of editing JSON by hand. The editor checks the file, keeps its layout and number style, and runs entirely in your browser.

What cfggameplay.json controls

cfggameplay.json holds gameplay rules that DayZ lets server owners change without mods: base damage, stamina, building checks, hit indicators and map options. It also lists the extra files the server loads at start: custom object files, spawn loadout files and restricted area files. The settings sit in these blocks:

GeneralData
Whether bases and containers can be damaged, and the respawn choices players get when they die or are knocked out.
PlayerData
The faint personal light around players at night, the loadout files for fresh spawns, and the stamina, shock, movement, drowning and weapon obstruction settings.
WorldsData
Bright or dark nights, the object files spawned at start, the lowest and highest temperature for each month, how much heavier wet clothing gets, and the restricted area files.
BaseBuildingData
The checks that stop players placing items (HologramData) or building parts (ConstructionData) in some spots, and the items that can't be placed underground.
UIData
The paper map only option and the hit indicator: whether it shows, its style, colour and how long it stays on screen.
MapData
Whether players can open the map without carrying one, and whether it shows their own position and navigation info.
VehicleData
How fast boats decay.

Turn it on, and where the file is

DayZ only reads cfggameplay.json when it is turned on in your Nitrado server settings. While it is off, the server ignores the file, along with every object, loadout and restricted area file it lists. On a PC server you host yourself, the same switch is enableCfgGameplayFile = 1; in serverDZ.cfg.

The file sits in the root of the mission folder, next to the db folder. On Xbox that is dayzxb_missions/dayzOffline.chernarusplus, on PlayStation dayzps_missions/dayzOffline.chernarusplus. Livonia uses dayzOffline.enoch and Sakhal dayzOffline.sakhal. Paths in its file lists are relative to the mission folder, like custom/mybase.json. To give fresh spawns their own gear, build a loadout file with the Spawn Loadout Generator and add it to spawnGearPresetFiles.

DayZ reads the file only when the server starts, so every change needs a restart.

Edit cfggameplay.json on a Nitrado server

  1. Open the file browser in the Nitrado web interface and go to your mission folder.
  2. Download cfggameplay.json and keep an untouched copy as a backup.
  3. Open it here, change what you need and fix anything marked in red.
  4. Download the edited file and upload it over the old one.
  5. Check that cfggameplay.json is turned on in your Nitrado server settings, then restart the server.

On Xbox and PlayStation servers running Law's KillFeed, the common switches, such as raid days, stamina and night light, can be changed from Discord without opening the file: see Change cfggameplay.json settings from Discord. The dashboard's Server Files page opens, checks and uploads files, keeps the last 15 versions of every file, and edits in place on the paid plan.

Questions

Is my cfggameplay.json uploaded anywhere?

No. The editor runs in your browser. Your file is read, edited and saved on your own device and never sent to our server.

Why don't my changes apply in game?

Check three things. cfggameplay.json must be turned on in your Nitrado server settings, or DayZ ignores it. DayZ only reads the file when the server starts, so restart after you upload it. And the file must be valid JSON: a missing comma or quote stops it being read, which is why the editor checks it.

How do I turn off base damage, and back on for raid days?

In the General block, turn on Disable base damage (disableBaseDamage set to true), and Disable container damage too if tents, barrels and crates should be safe. Upload the file and restart. For a raid day, set both back to false and restart again. The file is only read at a restart, so the switch happens at the next one.

Will the editor change the rest of my file?

No. Only the values you change are rewritten. Everything else stays as it was, including the indent, the order of the settings and numbers written like 1.0. Keys the editor has no description for are shown by their own name and kept.

How do I add a custom object, loadout or restricted area file?

Upload the file into the mission folder, for example as custom/mybase.json, and add its path to the right list: objectSpawnersArr in WorldsData for object files, spawnGearPresetFiles in PlayerData for loadout files, and playerRestrictedAreaFiles in WorldsData for restricted areas. Paths are relative to the mission folder.

Does this work for Xbox and PlayStation servers?

Yes. Console servers on Nitrado use the same cfggameplay.json, in the root of the mission folder. Download it from Nitrado's file browser, edit it here and upload it back.
