Every usage, value, category and tag your loot can use is defined in cfglimitsdefinition.xml, and named groups of them in cfglimitsdefinitionuser.xml. Open them with your types.xml to see how many items use each one, rename a flag everywhere at once, and find the misspelt flags that quietly stop items spawning.

What cfglimitsdefinition.xml does

cfglimitsdefinition.xml, in the root of the mission folder, is the list of names the central economy knows: the categories, tags, usage flags and value flags that types.xml and the map's buildings use. cfglimitsdefinitionuser.xml next to it defines named groups of them.

  • A name in types.xml that isn't defined here is ignored without any error, which is how a typo like Twon stops an item spawning.
  • Renaming a flag here also renames it in types.xml and in the groups, so nothing is left pointing at the old name.
  • Adding a name only defines it: loot spawns where buildings and areas carry the flag.

To change the items themselves, use the types.xml Editor.

Questions

Why does an item not spawn even though its nominal is above 0?

One common reason: a usage, value, category or tag in its types.xml entry that cfglimitsdefinition.xml doesn't define, such as a typo like Twon for Town. DayZ quietly ignores it, and an item with no valid usage has nowhere to spawn. Open your files here and every such name is listed with a fix.

What are usage and value flags?

Usage is the kind of place an item spawns in (Military, Town, Farm…) and value the map tier (Tier1 on the coast to Tier4 inland). Buildings and map areas carry the same flags, and an item spawns where they match.

What is cfglimitsdefinitionuser.xml?

Named groups of usages or values, such as TownVillage for Town and Village. A types.xml entry uses one with <usage user="TownVillage"/> instead of listing both.

Can I add my own usage, like Trader?

You can define one here, but a usage only spawns loot where buildings or areas carry it, which is set in mapgroupproto.xml and the map's areas. For new tiers or areas, adding the name alone doesn't make loot spawn there.

Is my file uploaded anywhere?

No. The editor runs in your browser. Only Apply to server sends the finished files to your own Nitrado server.
