When a player walks into a bunker or tunnel in DayZ, the screen darkens as their eyes adjust. That comes from cfgundergroundtriggers.json in the mission folder: a list of invisible boxes, each with a light level for anyone standing inside it.
The bunker on Livonia uses them. If you place a custom bunker or underground base with an object spawner file, it needs triggers of its own, or it stays as bright as the surface.
What each value does
- Position: the centre of the box, as X, Y, Z map coordinates.
- Orientation: yaw, pitch and roll, to turn the box to match the tunnel.
- Size: the box's size along X, Y and Z, in metres.
- EyeAccommodation: the light level inside, from 1 (normal) to 0 (fully dark).
- InterpolationSpeed: how fast the light changes when a player enters.
- Breadcrumbs: points along a passage, each with its own light level, so the light fades step by step from an entrance into the dark. Each has a
UseRaycastswitch, which checks whether the player can see the breadcrumb, and aRadius, where -1 means the default.
Add a trigger for a custom bunker
- Note the map position, size and direction of the underground space. If you built it with the DayZ Editor, the object positions in your object spawner file are a good starting point.
- Add one trigger box that covers the dark inner area, with an EyeAccommodation of 0 or close to it.
- At the entrance, add a trigger with breadcrumbs that step the light down from 1 towards 0 along the way in.
- Save the file, restart the server and walk through it. Adjust the boxes until the light changes where it should.
Editing with Law's KillFeed
On Xbox and PlayStation servers, the dashboard's Server Files page opens cfgundergroundtriggers.json in an easy editor on the paid plan: one card per trigger with position, rotation and size boxes, a light-level slider and a breadcrumb table. It checks that every position has three numbers and that light levels stay between 0 and 1.
