Choose what fresh spawns wear and carry, then download a loadout file for cfggameplay.json. It works for Xbox, PlayStation and PC servers, needs no mods, and runs entirely in your browser.

Loadout

Characters (none listed: every character)

Slots

What the player wears. Each slot picks one of its options; the weight makes one more likely. Health is 0 (ruined) to 1 (pristine). The item suggestions are a few common vanilla items: type any class name from your server's types.xml.

No slots yet. Add one, or start from the example.

Cargo sets

Extra items that go into the clothes, such as a rag, a flare or some food. Each set has a spawn weight, like the slot options.

No cargo sets. They are optional.

Your file

No problems found.

Leave the folder empty if the file goes next to cfggameplay.json.

How DayZ spawn loadouts work

A loadout file is a small JSON file in your mission folder. cfggameplay.json lists it under PlayerData.spawnGearPresetFiles, and DayZ uses it to dress every fresh spawn. It works on Xbox and PlayStation servers as well as PC, with no mods.

You can have several loadout files. DayZ picks one for each new character, so you can mix a few starting kits and make some rarer than others. A file with a spawn weight of 3 is picked about three times as often as one with a weight of 1.

spawnWeight
How likely this file is to be picked when there are several. Higher means more often.
name
A name for the loadout, so you can tell your files apart.
characterTypes
Which survivor models the loadout applies to, such as SurvivorM_Mirek. Leave it empty for every character.
attachmentSlotItemSets
The slots: one entry per slot, such as Body, Legs, Feet, Back or Headgear. Each slot lists options in discreteItemSets, and one is picked by its spawn weight.
discreteUnsortedItemSets
The cargo sets: extra items that go into the clothes, such as a rag, a flare or some food.
simpleChildrenTypes
Items put inside or on an item, listed by class name. The generator calls them Inside.
complexChildrenTypes
Like simpleChildrenTypes, but each item has its own health, quickbar slot and items inside it. The generator calls them items with their own settings.
healthMin / healthMax
The health an item spawns with, from 0 (ruined) to 1 (pristine).
quickBarSlot
The quickbar slot an item goes in, 0 to 9, or -1 for none.
quantityMin / quantityMax
The quantity range for items that have one, such as the contents of a bottle. The generator gives new items 1.0 and keeps the values of a file you open.

Add a loadout to your Nitrado server

  1. Build the loadout here and download it. Fix anything the generator marks in red first; amber notes are worth a look.
  2. Upload it with Nitrado's file browser into your mission folder, the folder that holds cfggameplay.json, or into a folder inside it such as custom. On Xbox the mission folder is dayzxb_missions/dayzOffline.chernarusplus, on PlayStation dayzps_missions/dayzOffline.chernarusplus. Livonia uses dayzOffline.enoch and Sakhal dayzOffline.sakhal. On PC it is in the mpmissions folder.
  3. Open cfggameplay.json and list the file under PlayerData, with the path relative to the mission folder: "spawnGearPresetFiles": ["custom/starter.json"]. To use several loadouts, list them all, separated by commas.
  4. Check that cfggameplay.json is turned on in your Nitrado server settings. DayZ ignores the file, and every loadout in it, when it is off.
  5. Restart the server. New characters spawn with the new gear; players who are already alive keep what they have.

The guide to custom spawn loadouts on a DayZ console server covers the same steps in more detail. On Xbox and PlayStation servers running Law's KillFeed, the dashboard's Server Files page opens, checks and uploads loadout files and cfggameplay.json for you, and keeps the last 15 versions of every file; editing in place is on the paid plan.

Questions

Is my loadout uploaded anywhere?

No. The generator runs in your browser. The file is built and saved on your own device and never sent to our server.

Do custom spawn loadouts need mods?

No. Loadout files are part of vanilla DayZ and work on Xbox, PlayStation and PC servers.

Why do players still spawn with the default clothes?

Usually one of three things: the file is not listed in spawnGearPresetFiles, cfggameplay.json is turned off in your Nitrado settings, or the server has not been restarted since. A JSON error in the file, or a path that does not match the folder and file name, stops it loading too.

Where do I find item class names?

In your server's types.xml. Each item's class name is in its name attribute, like <type name="BandageDressing">. The generator only suggests a few common vanilla items, so copy any other name exactly from types.xml.

Can I give different kits to different players?

Not per player. You can tie a file to certain survivor models with characterTypes, and with several files DayZ picks one for each new character, weighted by spawnWeight.

Do players who are already alive get the new gear?

No. A loadout only applies when a new character spawns. Players who are alive keep what they have.
