Short answer: no. DayZ on Xbox and PlayStation has no Steam Workshop, so a console server can't load mods: no new items, no new maps, no scripts. Every player joins with the same vanilla game.
What a console server can change is the data the vanilla game reads: its XML and JSON files and the Nitrado server settings. Those cover far more than loot. You can place whole buildings, add vehicles, draw contaminated zones, change the weather and decide what players spawn with. A Discord bot covers what files can't, such as a trader and an economy. This guide lists what is possible and where to do it.
Why console servers can't run mods
On PC, a mod is a Workshop download that both the server and every player load. Xbox and PlayStation have no way to download or load one, so anything that needs new code, models or textures is out: no trader mods, no Expansion, no custom guns. Servers that call themselves "modded" on console change files, not the game.
What you can change with files
- Loot: how much of each item spawns, where and in which tiers, in
types.xml. Raise or lower whole categories with the Loot Multiplier, and see the vanilla values in the item list. - What items spawn with: attachments, magazines and cargo in
cfgspawnabletypes.xml, built with the cfgspawnabletypes Generator. - Vehicles, helicopter crashes and animals: how many and where, in
events.xml. The Vehicle Builder and Heli Crash Loot Builder set what they come with. - Buildings and objects: walls, bases, bunkers and props placed on the map with an object spawner file listed in
cfggameplay.json. Make one with the Object Spawner Builder. Underground spaces also need underground triggers. - Contaminated zones: gas areas with their own loot, in
cfgeffectarea.json, drawn with the Contaminated Zone Editor. - Infected: hordes and where they roam, with the Zombie Horde Generator.
- Player spawns and starting gear: fresh-spawn points in
cfgplayerspawnpoints.xmland spawn loadouts. - Gameplay rules: stamina, base building checks, hit indicators and map options in
cfggameplay.json, with the cfggameplay.json Editor. - Weather and time: rain, fog and storms in
cfgweather.xml; day and night length in the Nitrado settings, worked out with the Day & Night Calculator. - Server messages: welcome notes and restart countdowns with the messages.xml Generator.
Where the files are
Every file sits in the mission folder of the map your server runs, inside dayzxb_missions on Xbox or dayzps_missions on PlayStation. DayZ mission folders lists each one. Console servers have no FTP: you edit through the Nitrado web interface, or through the Server Files page of the Law's KillFeed dashboard, which checks each file for errors before it goes up. DayZ reads most files only when it starts, so restart after a change.
Run every file through the free DayZ File Checker before you upload it. One missing tag can stop the economy from loading.
What a Discord bot adds
- A trader: players buy items, packs and vehicles on a web shop with money they earned on your server. The bot writes each order into your object spawner file, and it is waiting at their drop point after the next restart.
- Airdrops: a crate with a loadout you choose lands near a town at a restart, announced in Discord.
- An economy and bounties: kill rewards, wages, a bank and bounties on players.
- Zones and rules: safe zones and PvP zones on the map, with warnings, kicks or bans for kills inside.
- A kill feed, stats and a live map, read from the server's own logs.
Some things players ask for on modded PC servers can't live in a file, because they need a shop, money or a memory of who did what. Law's KillFeed runs those from Discord and the web, and works on Xbox, PlayStation and PC Nitrado servers:
