Updated 12 October 2026

When a rifle spawns with a scope, or a backpack with something inside, that comes from cfgspawnabletypes.xml in the mission folder. Each entry names an item and lists what can spawn on it or in it.

How an entry works

  • <type name="…">: the item the rules are for, by class name.
  • <attachments>: things that attach to it, such as optics, magazines or a suppressor, each with a chance.
  • <cargo>: things that spawn inside it.
  • chance: from 0 to 1, so 0.25 is a 25% chance.
  • preset="…": picks from a named list in cfgrandompresets.xml instead of listing items here.
  • damage: how damaged the item spawns.

Change what spawns with an item

  1. Download cfgspawnabletypes.xml from the mission folder and keep a copy.
  2. Find the item's <type> entry, or add one, and change the chances or the listed items.
  3. Check the file with the free DayZ File Checker before you upload it, then restart.

Class names must be spelled exactly, and attachments must fit the item, or they simply don't appear.

Editing with Law's KillFeed

On Xbox and PlayStation servers, the dashboard's Server Files page opens cfgspawnabletypes.xml in an easy editor on the paid plan, with chance sliders, presets, a damage slider and suggestions for what usually goes with an item.

Questions

How do I make weapons spawn with a magazine?

Add the magazine to the weapon's <attachments> with a chance, for example 0.5 for half the time, and restart.

What is cfgrandompresets.xml?

A list of named sets of cargo and attachments. An entry can use preset="…" to pick from one of them instead of listing every item.

Is cfgspawnabletypes.xml the same on console and PC?

Yes, the format is the same on Xbox, PlayStation and PC.
