Infected spawn in zones listed in env/zombie_territories.xml: a point on the map, a radius, how many infected and which kind. Open your file or start from Bohemia's vanilla one, see every infected zone on the map, then add hordes where you want them: a camp of soldiers at an airfield, a crowd in town. Pick the infected types yourself if you like, and download the file for PC, Xbox or PlayStation.

You can also add hordes without a file and copy just the new zones into yours.

zones in the file new hordes changed with problems

A new horde starts in the middle of the map. Click the map to move it where it belongs.

No new hordes yet. Pick an infected event and a size, then Add a horde.
Your own infected mix

The infected types come from an event in db/events.xml with the same name as the zone. To choose them yourself, copy a vanilla infected event under a new name, change its list, paste it into your events.xml and give your hordes that name.

Paste the copied block into your zombie_territories.xml, just before the last line, </territory-type>.

How infected zones work

Each <zone> in env/zombie_territories.xml is one place where infected spawn, grouped into <territory> blocks. New hordes go into a territory block of their own at the end of the file, so the vanilla zones stay as they were.

name Infected event
The infected event in db/events.xml with the same name, such as InfectedArmy, InfectedCity or InfectedPolice. It decides which infected types spawn.
x, z Position
The middle of the zone, in metres on the map.
r Radius
How far around that point the infected spawn, in metres. Vanilla zones use 50 to 280.
dmin, dmax Infected count
The fewest and most infected the zone spawns. Vanilla zones go up to 20 on Chernarus and 40 on Livonia.
smin, smax Static count
A second count that most vanilla zones leave at 0.

The total is capped by ZombieMaxCount in globals.xml, which you can change with the globals.xml Editor. Every infected event and its types are in events.xml, which the events.xml Editor opens.

Add the horde on a Nitrado server

  1. Open the file browser in the Nitrado web interface and go to your mission folder: dayzxb_missions/dayzOffline.chernarusplus on Xbox, dayzps_missions/… on PlayStation. Livonia uses dayzOffline.enoch, Sakhal dayzOffline.sakhal and Nasdara dayzOffline.nasdara.
  2. Download env/zombie_territories.xml and keep an untouched copy.
  3. Open it here, add your hordes and download the result. If you made your own infected mix, paste that event into db/events.xml too.
  4. Upload the files over the old ones, under the same names, and restart the server.

On Xbox and PlayStation servers running Law's KillFeed, the dashboard's Server Files page opens, checks and uploads these files for you and keeps the last 15 versions of every file.

Questions

How do I add a zombie horde to my DayZ server?

Start from your zombie_territories.xml or the vanilla one, click Add a horde, click the map where it should be and set how many infected it spawns. Download the file, upload it to the env folder of your mission and restart.

Which infected spawn in a horde?

The zone's name picks an infected event in events.xml, such as InfectedArmy for soldiers or InfectedCity for townspeople. That event lists the infected types. To pick the types yourself, build your own event under "Your own infected mix".

What do dmin and dmax mean?

The fewest and most infected the zone spawns while players are around it. Vanilla zones go up to 20 on Chernarus and 40 on Livonia. smin and smax are a second, static count that most vanilla zones leave at 0.

Why does my horde have fewer infected than I set?

ZombieMaxCount in globals.xml caps how many infected are alive on the whole map at once (1000 in vanilla). Big hordes also need players near them, since zones spawn their infected as players come close.

Is my file uploaded anywhere?

No. The generator runs in your browser and your file never leaves your device. The vanilla buttons load Bohemia's files straight from their public GitHub repository.

Does this work for Xbox and PlayStation servers?

Yes. The file format is the same on every platform. It sits in the env folder of your mission folder.
