types.xml is DayZ's loot table. Every item that can spawn has an entry that says how many the central economy keeps on the map, how long they stay, and in which buildings and map tiers they appear. To increase loot, or stop an item from spawning, this is the file you change.

The format is the same on Xbox, PlayStation and PC. The free types.xml Editor loads your file in the browser, explains every column and changes whole categories at once.

Where the file is

It sits in the mission's db folder, for example dayzOffline.chernarusplus/db/types.xml for Chernarus or dayzOffline.enoch/db/types.xml for Livonia. On Nitrado the mission folder is inside dayzxb_missions on Xbox, dayzps_missions on PlayStation and mpmissions on PC. DayZ mission folders lists every file and where it lives.

On Xbox and PlayStation servers, the dashboard's Server Files page lets you browse, download, check and upload types.xml, and keeps the last 15 versions of every file.

What each value means

  • nominal: how many of the item the economy aims to keep on the server. 0 means it never spawns as loot.
  • min: when the count drops below this, the economy spawns more, back up towards nominal.
  • lifetime: seconds the item can lie untouched before it despawns. 3600 is one hour, 14400 four hours.
  • restock: seconds the economy waits before respawning the item once the count is below min. 0 means as soon as it can.
  • quantmin / quantmax: how full the item spawns, in percent: rounds in a magazine, liquid in a bottle, uses left. -1 means the field is not used.
  • cost: spawn priority. The vanilla files use 100 for almost everything, so leave it.

Flags, category, usage and value

  • flags: where copies count towards nominal: in containers (count_in_cargo), in tents, barrels and stashes (count_in_hoarder), on the map (count_in_map) and on players (count_in_player). crafted marks items players make rather than find, deloot marks loot from dynamic events such as helicopter crashes.
  • category: the kind of item, such as weapons, clothes, food or tools.
  • usage: the kind of building it spawns in, such as Military, Police, Town, Farm or Hunting.
  • value: the map tiers it spawns in, Tier1 near the coast to Tier4 deep inland, or Unique.

Flags change how fast loot comes back. With count_in_hoarder on, items stored in bases count towards nominal, so a server full of stashes respawns less of that item.

How to increase loot

  1. Download types.xml and keep an untouched copy.
  2. Raise nominal and min together for the items you want more of. Raising a whole category by a factor, such as 1.5 for weapons, keeps the balance between items.
  3. Check that min is never higher than nominal, and that every item that should spawn still has a lifetime.
  4. Run the file through the XML validator or the editor's checks, then upload it.
  5. Restart the server. The economy reads types.xml at start.

Loot can only spawn where a building has a free spot for it, so a very high nominal does not fill the map past what its buildings can hold. Raise values in steps and watch server performance. To see exactly what changed between two versions, use types.xml Compare.

How to stop an item from spawning

Set its nominal and min to 0 and keep the entry. Deleting the entry instead makes the file harder to compare with the vanilla one after a game update.

Questions

Why don't my types.xml changes show up in game?

The economy reads types.xml when the server starts, so restart after you upload. Items already in the world stay until they are picked up or their lifetime runs out.

How do I make an item spawn more often?

Raise its nominal and min. A shorter restock also brings it back sooner once the count is below min.

Is types.xml the same on Xbox, PlayStation and PC?

Yes. The format is the same, only the mission folder name differs.

My server will not start after editing types.xml. What now?

A broken tag or a missing closing bracket stops the file from loading. Check it with the free XML validator, or upload your untouched copy.
