DayZ bullets drop over distance and travel with real time of flight, so a long shot is never just "put the dot on them". Learning to zero your sights and read the range is what separates a hit from giving away your position.
Zeroing and bullet drop
Many sights let you set a zero (the distance the sight is calibrated for). Adjust it to roughly the range of your target so the point of aim matches the point of impact. Beyond your zero, aim a little high to allow for bullet drop; the further the shot, the more drop and the more lead on a moving target.
Steady the shot
- Go prone or crouch — a lower stance massively reduces sway.
- Hold your breath while aiming to steady the reticle for a few seconds.
- Rest on cover or use a bipod for the steadiest shots.
- Control recoil — fire in short bursts or single shots at range instead of holding full auto.
- Being injured, cold or exhausted increases sway; fix those before a precision shot.
Console vs PC aiming
The ballistics are the same on every platform. On console you are on a controller, so aim sensitivity and aim-assist settings matter a lot — tune them in the options until tracking feels natural. PC players can fine-tune mouse sensitivity and tend to find precise aim easier, but the shot itself behaves identically.
