PC, Xbox & PS Updated 2 November 2026

Injuries are constant in DayZ — infected hits, gunfire, falls and even sprinting into a fence. The two you must be able to treat on your own are bleeding and a broken leg. Carry the means for both at all times.

Stop the bleeding

Open wounds bleed and drain your blood until treated. Apply a bandage or rags to each bleeding wound. Rags are everywhere (tear them from clothing with a knife), but a dirty rag can infect the wound, so disinfect rags or use clean bandages when you can.

Broken bones

A fracture (often a broken leg from a fall or a hard hit) leaves you limping and in pain and can drop you. Make a splint from 2 wooden sticks + rags/bandage and apply it to walk again. Morphine or a splint fixes the fracture; painkillers only mask the pain.

Wound infection and the kit to carry

  • Wound infection — dirty wounds can become infected over time. Treat it early with tetracycline antibiotics; disinfect wounds and rags (alcoholic tincture / disinfectant spray) to prevent it.
  • Carry: several bandages or clean rags, a splint or 2 sticks + rags, disinfectant, tetracycline, and a saline/blood bag if you run with a group.
  • A first aid kit bundles bandages, saline, splint, morphine and more in one slot-efficient container.

Questions

How do I fix a broken leg in DayZ?

Apply a splint (2 wooden sticks + rags or a bandage) or use morphine. Painkillers only hide the pain; they do not heal the fracture.

My wound is infected — what do I do?

Take tetracycline antibiotics and disinfect the wound. Prevent it by using clean or disinfected bandages instead of dirty rags.
