PC, Xbox & PS Updated 2 November 2026

Beyond fixed buildings, DayZ spawns dynamic events that move high-value loot around the map and reset over time. The famous ones are helicopter crash sites, which carry some of the best weapons in the game.

Events worth finding

  • Helicopter crashes — top-tier rifles, attachments and rare gear, guarded by infected and often watched by other players. They burn out and move to a new spot over time.
  • Vehicle wrecks and convoys — crashed cars, police and ambulance wrecks with their own loot tables.
  • Contaminated / gas zones — high-tier loot behind toxic gas; bring a gas mask and filter. See chemical poisoning.
  • Animal herds and infected hordes that roam and cluster.

Looting an event safely

Crash sites are magnets for players, so watch before you approach — sit on a treeline and look for movement. Clear the infected quietly if you can, grab the priority items and leave; lingering on the best loot on the map is how people die. Because loot does not respawn with players nearby, a picked-over site refills once everyone leaves.

Questions

Where do helicopter crashes spawn in DayZ?

At dynamic locations that change over time rather than fixed spots. They burn out and respawn elsewhere, so they move around the map — look for the smoke and wreckage.

Is the loot at crash sites worth it?

It is some of the best in the game, which is exactly why other players camp them. Approach carefully, loot fast and leave.
