DayZ is the same core game on PC, Xbox and PlayStation — same survival systems, same maps, same infected. The big differences come down to mods, crossplay and controls.
The differences that matter
- Mods — PC can run custom mods (extra guns, traders, map changes) from the Steam Workshop. Consoles cannot install mods; console "community" servers are vanilla with heavy config changes. See mods on PC.
- Crossplay — there is none. PC, Xbox and PlayStation are fully separate, and Xbox and PlayStation cannot play together either.
- Controls — mouse and keyboard on PC vs a controller on console; console has aim settings and aim assist to tune.
- Community servers — on console these are rented through Nitrado, Bohemia's official partner; on PC owners can self-host or use many hosts.
- Performance & visuals — PC scales with your hardware and generally allows longer view distances and higher frame rates.
What is identical
The survival loop is the same everywhere: hunger, thirst, temperature, blood and shock, diseases, bleeding and fractures, the same weapons and ballistics, and the same official maps. Everything else in this wiki applies to your platform unless an article says otherwise.
